Program

The Master in Chemical Engineering by the University of Oviedo has 90 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) with a duration of one and a half year (3 semesters). During the first year, theoretical and practical courses are taught in the Faculty of Chemistry (Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 20:00). In the second year, one semester is enterely devoted to the Internship (in Companies outside the University) and Master Project. The master finishes with the presentation and defense of the Master project in the call of January (also in the calls of May or July).

The methodology developed in the master's degree in Chemical Engineering is based on the 20-20-20 philosophy, that is, 20% of the classroom hours are practical (computer, laboratory and pilot plant training), 20% are taught in English and, finally, another 20% is taught by external professionals from Companies or Research Centers.

Practical training and bilingual

In the master's degree, practical training is strengthened, which includes computer, laboratory and pilot plant training, and internships. In the first year, two courses of integrated practical training are included: "Chemical Engineering Computing" and "Chemical Engineering Laboratory". In the second year, the practical training is completed with the an internship in a company. Both allow to advance in the development of the general and specific competences of the Chemical Engineer.

In addition, 20% of the classroom hours are taught in English, either by faculty of the University of Oviedo or external professionals. In particular, courses that include specialization seminars in English are combined with courses entirely taught in English (for more information see the list of course below).

Cooperation with Companies

The master in Chemical Engineering is developped in close collaboration with Companies. This is reflected in teaching, since 20% of the classroom hours are taught by external professionals from regional Companies and Industries, as well as from national and international Research Centers.

Among the collaborating companies, one can find the main multinational companies located in the region, which belong to various productive industrial sectors and engineering offices, as well as small and medium companies.

Master project

The Master project is a course (18 ECTS) where the student implements, presents and defends in a university court an original exercise made individually, consisting of a comprehensive Chemical Engineering project of professional nature, which shows the acquired academic skills.

This work can be done in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Oviedo, in a Research Center or in an Industry, for example, in the context of Internship.

Internship

The Intership (12 ECTS) in Industries o Research Centers outside the University of Oviedo is compulsory for all the students of the master. Many of these companies cooperate with the master from an academic point of view, as stated before. For this reason, the intership of master's students reinforces the links of the University with companies, and viceversa.

There is also the possibility to do the intership abroad, for example in the context of Erasmus agreements.
